Backend Developer Intern

About the Role

Agentic Academy Labs is building AI-powered learning experiences that help students learn modern technology through practical projects. As a Backend Developer Intern, you will build the services, APIs, and data systems behind our education platform.

This is a hands-on engineering internship focused on APIs, PostgreSQL, authentication, authorization, and server-side business logic. You may work with a Bun or Node.js backend, depending on the project and existing platform architecture. You will collaborate with developers, product contributors, and education teams while receiving guidance from experienced engineers.

What You Will Do

• Design, build, and maintain REST APIs using TypeScript with Bun or Node.js
• Create PostgreSQL tables, relationships, migrations, and efficient queries
• Implement authentication and authorization features such as signup, login, sessions, JWTs, and role-based access
• Convert product requirements into reliable server logic for courses, learner progress, assessments, and AI-enabled learning features
• Add input validation, structured error handling, logging, and security best practices
• Write unit and integration tests to improve API reliability
• Review code, respond to feedback, and contribute through GitHub pull requests
• Document endpoints, database decisions, setup instructions, and technical trade-offs
• Debug issues across the application, database, and API layers

Required Skills

• Working knowledge of JavaScript or TypeScript
• Understanding of HTTP, REST APIs, JSON, and common status codes
• Basic experience with SQL and relational database concepts
• Familiarity with Git and GitHub
• Ability to break requirements into small implementation tasks
• Willingness to ask questions, accept feedback, and debug independently
• Strong written communication skills for a remote team

Learning Goals
