Full Stack Developer Intern
About this role
About the Role
We're looking for a Full Stack Developer Intern to join our engineering team at Agentic Academy Labs. You'll work on the core platform that powers our AI education courses — building features that thousands of students use daily to learn how to build with LLMs, AI agents, and modern development tools.
This isn't a "shadowing" internship. You'll ship real code to production from week one, working alongside senior engineers who treat you as a peer. Our stack is Next.js 15 (App Router), Bun.js, PostgreSQL (via Neon), and tRPC — chosen for developer velocity and type safety end-to-end.
What You Will Do
- Build and ship features across the full stack: React Server Components, Server Actions, API routes, database migrations, and background jobs
- Design and implement APIs using tRPC with Zod validation — type-safe from database to UI
- Work with PostgreSQL (Neon serverless): write migrations, optimize queries, design schemas for new product areas
- Collaborate on architecture decisions — we discuss tradeoffs openly and value fresh perspectives
- Write tests (Vitest, Playwright) and improve CI/CD pipelines
- Participate in code reviews — both giving and receiving feedback
- Learn Bun.js internals — we use it for runtime, test runner, bundler, and package manager
Why Join Us
- Real impact: Your code ships to production users — students learning AI development worldwide
- Modern stack: Work with the latest Next.js, Bun, React 19, and TypeScript patterns
- Mentorship: Pair with engineers who've built at scale (ex-FAANG, YC startups, edtech)
- Open culture: Weekly tech talks, RFC process, blameless postmortems
- Remote-first: Async communication, flexible hours, overlap-friendly time zones
- Portfolio-worthy work: Build features you'll proudly showcase — authentication, real-time collaboration, AI-powered learning tools, billing integrations
- Path to full-time: Strong performers receive return offers
Duration: 4-6 months (flexible around academic calendar) Commitment: 30-40 hrs/week Compensation: Competitive stipend + learning budget + home office allowance
Requirements
Required Skills
- JavaScript/TypeScript fluency — comfortable with modern ES features, async patterns, type system
- React experience — hooks, context, component composition, performance basics
- Backend fundamentals — REST or GraphQL APIs, database design, authentication/authorization
- SQL proficiency — joins, indexes, migrations, transactions (PostgreSQL preferred)
- Git & GitHub workflow — branching, PRs, rebasing, conventional commits
- Problem-solving mindset — you break down ambiguous problems and iterate toward solutions
Learning Goals (What You'll Gain)
- Next.js 15 App Router mastery — RSC, Server Actions, streaming, parallel routes
- Bun.js ecosystem — runtime APIs, test runner, bundler, package manager workflows
- tRPC + Zod — end-to-end type safety without code generation
- Database operations at scale — connection pooling, query optimization, migration safety
- Production engineering — observability, feature flags, deployment strategies, incident response
- AI integration patterns — streaming LLM responses, tool calling, eval-driven development
Nice to Have
- Prior Next.js (Pages or App Router) or Remix experience
- Bun.js or Deno familiarity
- tRPC, Prisma, or Drizzle ORM exposure
- Open source contributions or personal projects you can walk us through
- Experience with Tailwind CSS, shadcn/ui, or similar component systems
- Background in education, developer tools, or AI/ML applications
What We Value
- Curiosity over credentials — show us what you've built, not just your transcript
- Communication — you write clear PR descriptions, ask good questions, document decisions
- Ownership — you follow through, surface blockers early, and care about user experience
- Growth mindset — you're here to learn, unlearn, and level up rapidly
