Backend Developer Intern

About the Role

Ready to build the engines that power AI-powered learning? As a Backend Developer Intern on our Engineering team, you'll work on the APIs, databases, and server logic that drive our interactive AI education platform. You'll collaborate with senior engineers to design, implement, and scale backend services that handle thousands of learners building real AI applications.

We're looking for someone who's comfortable writing clean code, debugging tricky issues, and isn't afraid to dive deep into database queries or authentication flows. Whether you're optimizing a slow API endpoint or designing a new user session system, your work will directly impact how students learn to build with AI.

What You Will Do

• Design, build, and maintain RESTful APIs and server-side logic using Node.js or Bun
• Write and optimize PostgreSQL queries, migrations, and database schemas
• Implement and improve authentication and authorization systems (JWT, OAuth, sessions)
• Collaborate with frontend and AI/ML teams to integrate backend services
• Write unit and integration tests to ensure reliability and performance
• Debug production issues and contribute to monitoring and logging improvements
• Participate in code reviews and learn from senior engineering mentors

Required Skills & Experience

• Currently pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field
• Familiarity with Node.js or Bun backend development
• Basic understanding of PostgreSQL and SQL querying
• Knowledge of REST API design and implementation
• Understanding of authentication and authorization concepts
• Comfortable with Git and version control workflows

Nice-to-Haves

• Experience with Express.js, Fastify, or similar frameworks
• Familiarity with Docker or cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure)
• Knowledge of testing frameworks (Jest, Vitest, etc.)
• Exposure to microservices or serverless architectures
• Interest in AI/ML and education technology
