Backend Developer Intern

About the Role

Are you passionate about building secure, fast and scalable backend systems? At Agentic Academy Labs, we are on the lookout for a Backend Developer Intern to help power the tools and platforms that teach students across India how to build with AI tools, LLMs and modern development frameworks. This remote internship is built specifically for students, giving you the opportunity to work on real features that will be used by a growing community of builders in 2026.

What You Will Do

• Build Robust APIs: Design, develop and document RESTful APIs that can be consumed by both web and mobile clients.
• Work with Databases: Write clean and optimized queries for PostgreSQL, helping to structure and maintain reliable data for our platform.
• Implement Secure Authentication: Contribute to our auth flows by helping to build and test secure login, access control and session management features.
• Write Scalable Server Logic: Develop reusable and efficient server logic to support the core features that power our learning experience.
• Ship with Modern Backends: Get hands-on with high performance runtimes, including Bun or Node.js, to build backends that are built to scale.
• Collaborate and Grow: Take part in code reviews, team standups and technical discussions while receiving constant feedback from experienced engineers and mentors.

Required Skills

• Programming Knowledge: A strong foundation in JavaScript or TypeScript with an interest in backend development.
• API Fundamentals: Basic understanding of how to build and consume APIs for web applications.
• Database Skills: Familiarity with relational databases, with at least a basic understanding of PostgreSQL.
• Authentication Basics: Exposure to core auth concepts such as hashing, tokens or sessions.
• Backend Awareness: Some exposure to Node.js, or a willingness to learn and work with Bun.
• Version Control: Working knowledge of Git and Git based workflows.

Learning Goals

• Best Practices: Learn how to write secure, testable and scalable server logic for real world applications.
• System Design Exposure: Gain an understanding of structuring data and endpoints for scalable backends.
• Collaborative Development: Develop your skills in code reviews, debugging and technical communication.

Nice to Have

• ORM Experience: Exposure to tools such as Prisma, Drizzle or Knex.
• Testing Knowledge: Familiarity with unit or integration testing for backend services.
• API Tools: Experience using tools like Postman or cURL to test APIs.
• Security Awareness: A basic understanding of common vulnerabilities and how to prevent them.
